SAN ANTONIO – Hundreds of fitness-minded families and individuals will gather Saturday morning, Jan. 27, for the 5th Annual Snowball 5K Run/Walk and Accessible 1K benefitting The Academy at Morgan’s Wonderland, a non-profit school for students with special needs (ages 12-24).

Sponsored by the school’s Parent Teacher Friend Organization (PTFO), the Accessible 5K Run/Walk will begin at 9 a.m. at Morgan’s Wonderland, 5223 David Edwards Drive at the intersection of Wurzbach Parkway and Thousand Oaks Drive a half-mile west of IH 35 in Northeast San Antonio, while the Accessible 1K will follow at 9:30 a.m.

Registration information is available at, he noted.

The Snowball Run/Walk will start and end inside Morgan’s Wonderland, the award-winning theme park designed with special-needs individuals in mind and built for everyone’s enjoyment.  The course will wind around the playing fields at the STAR Soccer Complex next door and nearby Heroes Stadium.  The big finish will go around the unique theme park’s catch-and-release fishing lake.

The event, which will be held rain or shine, will offer age-group awards, ribbons for 1K participants, t-shirts and tech shirts, food (including pancakes from Magnolia Pancake Haus), a gourmet coffee bar, hot chocolate, music, characters from the casts of “Star Wars,” “Frozen” and other Disney productions, a snowball toss and more.  Individuals using walkers, wheelchairs and baby strollers are welcome to participate.

Co-chairs Nicole Murray and Melissa Barron say the Snowball Run/Walk is a great way to burn off excess holiday calories as well as benefit The Academy at Morgan’s Wonderland.
